THE STORY

The story behind this place

From hotel gatherings to a new chapter in Beitou

Gui Hua Xuan at Imperial Hotel Taipei once hosted flag-presentation and victory gatherings for a tennis team. After a break, the restaurant reopened in Beitou and again held the team's victory banquet. Today, inside Beitou Resort, it pairs Chaozhou-Cantonese cooking with Taiwanese catch and local ingredients while continuing the shared-table dining tradition.

✨ AI Quick Take

This long-established banquet restaurant is tucked inside Beitou Resort. The spacious room centers on large round tables but works for both parties of two or three and large family gatherings. Its greatest advantage is exceptionally convenient parking, with many spaces and the ability to leave a car for the entire day when dining. The best-known dish is freshly carved roast duck served three ways for just over two thousand, a generous and reasonably priced expression of confident, traditional craft that is popular with local residents and regulars.

Uncle's take: Family meals go wrong when someone says it is too far, someone cannot find parking, and someone suddenly wants duck. Settle transport and the menu at once and half the arguments disappear.
Dining room and atmosphere:Inside Beitou Resort, the restaurant has the feel of a Chinese banquet room. Large round tables suit shared dishes for groups, while smaller parties can ask which table size fits. This is not a small restaurant rushing to turn seats. Once the roast duck arrives it still needs to be carved, wrapped in pancakes, and prepared in later styles. Leave room in the schedule so the family can share slowly without elders being hurried away halfway through the meal.
Location and dining notes:The address is 台北市北投區大業路527巷88號. By metro, leave 復興崗站 · Fuxinggang through Exit 2 and follow signs for Beitou Resort. Drivers can use the resort car park, which charges by time; follow posted rates and the daily cap. Roast duck must be reserved by phone in advance, and you should confirm both the required lead time and available serving styles.
● Scallop and Mullet Roe Fried Rice

When Scallop and Mullet Roe Fried Rice arrives, the most striking feature is the generous layer of crisp-fried scallop shreds covering the rice, their golden-brown strands creating a dry, airy texture. The rice grains remain distinct, with egg, scallion, and other ingredients evenly distributed. Dry wok fragrance arrives first, followed by the crunch of the scallop. Mullet roe and scallop are not made aggressively strong; the focus is the contrast between loose rice and crisp topping, making it a suitable staple for the whole table.

● Blanched Yellow Beef

For Blanched Yellow Beef, broad slices are cooked in boiling water before staff pour shredded scallion and sauce over them at the table. The wide slices curl slightly at the edges while staying soft and tender. Shredded scallion, young ginger, and a little chili gather in the center; take some with each slice to lift the beef flavor. The sauce is not heavily salty. There is ample liquid on the plate without masking the meat, so the dish fits between richer courses.

Uncle's take: A round table lets every dish turn toward you—and lets the conversation grow livelier as it goes around.
● Braised Angled Loofah with Clams

Braised Angled Loofah with Clams cuts the squash into thick pieces whose green edges remain after braising, while the flesh absorbs the clear, savory broth. The clams are already shelled and their tender meat is scattered among the squash, eliminating the need to open each shell and spreading the marine flavor evenly. The squash is not old or fibrous; it stays shaped despite its tenderness. The clear broth has natural sweetness and avoids the sticky feel of heavily thickened versions, refreshing the palate between meat and fried dishes.

● Thai Shrimp Cakes (3 pieces)

Thai Shrimp Cakes are formed as three thick oval patties, coated and fried golden, with crumbs creating a distinctly crisp surface. Inside is not a thin layer of filling but solid shrimp packed through the cake, so every bite has springiness. Thai sweet chili sauce adds gentle heat to sweet-tart flavor. A modest dip is enough to brighten the fried aroma. The clear three-piece serving is easy to divide according to the number of diners.

💡 Ordering note

For a first gathering, use Scallop and Mullet Roe Fried Rice as the staple, then add Blanched Yellow Beef and Braised Angled Loofah with Clams for meat, vegetables, and clear savory broth. Add Thai Shrimp Cakes (3 pieces) if you want a fried dish. If roast duck is the group's goal, reserve it before arranging the rest so the table's portions are easier to control. Now that parking is charged, remember to include transport costs in the gathering plan.

📌 Editor's summary

桂華軒 (Gui Hua Xuan) is a grounded restaurant that reserves both care and space for its guests. It has none of the inflated artsy labels of today's photogenic restaurants, relying instead on seasoned hotel craft, substantial carved roast duck, and generously made snail-and-scallion pancakes to feed everyone well. Oil and seasoning are handled with restraint, and most generous of all, guests can park free for the entire day. If you want to drive somewhere with the family for a comfortable meal, this long-established kitchen inside Beitou Resort is an exceptionally dependable choice.
