WHY VISIT

Why add it to your itinerary?

01
Compare two hand-rolled wrappers at breakfast

Egg Pancake is thick, with crisp edges and a resilient center; Chive Pocket wraps abundant filling in thin pastry, making the contrast in handmade dough especially clear.

02
Mother and daughter continue a made-to-order breakfast

Second-generation Li Peishan inherited her mother's craft and improved production flow through renovation. Rolling and filling still happen before guests in the bright shop.

03
Discover Chinese breakfast through savory soy milk

Vinegar turns soy milk into delicate curds, then youtiao, dried shrimp, and scallions add layers—an airy soy aroma between fried foods.

THE STORY

The story behind this place

Taking over her mother's breakfast craft

At Da San Yuan, the founding mother passed her pastry craft to her daughter, second-generation owner Li Peishan, who continues preparing breakfast by hand. She reorganized the shop and workflow to make rolling and filling smoother. The room is now bright and efficient, while freshly made pastries still set the morning rhythm on Ningbo West Street.

METROBITES LOCAL TIP
Spot the red string before adding chili crisp

There are two heat levels of chili crisp: one is aromatic and mildly spicy, while the jar tied with red string is distinctly hot. Identify the marker and taste a little before adding more, preserving the original pastry and chive aromas.

✨ AI Quick Take

Da San Yuan Soy Milk hides on Ningbo West Street in Taipei's Zhongzheng District, a Chinese breakfast shop open for about forty years. Its concise menu gives hand-rolled Egg Pancake, full Chive Pocket, and light Savory Soy Milk distinct textures. Renovation has not interrupted the made-to-order rhythm, suiting fans of substantial wheat aroma, pungent chives, and traditional soy breakfast.

Setting and dining atmosphere:The renovated street shop is bright and tidy, with white tile, wood tabletops, and a clear workspace. Dine-in seating is one long table with about five places; most guests take food away. Behind the counter, staff roll dough and fill chive pockets as pancakes leave the griddle. Seats are few, but handwork and frying happen in view amid morning crowds, spatula sounds, and takeaway traffic.
Location and visit notes:The address is No. 233, Ningbo West Street, Zhongzheng District, Taipei. Xiaonanmen, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, and Guting stations are each about a twenty-minute walk, while South Airport Night Market is roughly ten minutes away. Popular handmade items sell out early, so schedule Egg Pancake and Chive Pocket toward the start of breakfast. Order inside and take condiments from the outside window. Chili crisp comes aromatic-mild or distinctly hot in the jar tied with red string; identify it before serving yourself.
● Egg Pancake

The hand-rolled wrapper is thick, closer to a scallion pancake with egg. Fried against scallion egg, it turns fragrant and especially crisp at the edges while the center keeps fluffy wheat aroma and moist resilience. The cut reveals egg layered with pastry, growing chewier as you eat. Plain, egg and scallion lead; a little chili crisp concentrates toasted and spicy aromas.

● Chive Pocket

The thin wrapper is pan-fried with even golden marks and a clear crackle, while the thicker hand-pressed seam remains chewy. Fresh chives, glass noodles, and dried shrimp pack the cross-section, with hidden black pepper lifting the flavor. Chives lead with pungency and crunch, noodles hold the juices, and shrimp adds savor. Thin skin and abundant filling make it substantial in the hand.

● Savory Soy Milk

The light Savory Soy Milk avoids excessive toppings, using old youtiao, dried shrimp, and scallions. Vinegar forms fine curds like tender tofu pudding. Large youtiao pieces absorb soy aroma while retaining layers, and shrimp and scallions add savor and freshness. Heat brings comfort; add a little chili if desired. It pairs especially well with Chive Pocket.

Uncle's take: Breakfast needs no crowded table. One long table, freshly rolled dough, and a hot bowl of soy aroma can make the morning feel solid.
💡 Ordering Notes

Order Egg Pancake and Chive Pocket together to compare dough: the first thick and moist-chewy, the second thin-crisp with a resilient fold. Savory Soy Milk resets the palate between them. Taste plain soy and its vinegar curds before adding chili. Seats are limited, so check the long table if eating there; for takeaway, collect condiments before organizing the box.

📌 Editor's Summary

Da San Yuan's appeal is producing sharply different textures from a short menu. Egg Pancake uses thick handmade dough for crisp edges, fluffiness, and chew; Chive Pocket holds chives, glass noodles, and dried shrimp in a thin crisp shell; Savory Soy Milk forms delicate curds with vinegar and finishes with youtiao, shrimp, and scallions. The room is newly bright, but rolling, filling, and frying remain visible. With only about five seats, its old-shop rhythm still favors quick takeaway. Arrive early and accept the walk for a substantial handmade Taipei breakfast.
