WHY VISIT

Why add it to your itinerary?

01
A whole runny egg hidden at the center of the rice roll

Hot rice wraps a runny egg, pork floss, preserved radish, and fried-dough pieces. After cutting, yolk runs into the rice, combining chew, crispness, salt, and sweetness in one bite.

02
Handmade wrappers in both egg crepes and chive pockets

The Thai basil egg crepe develops crisp layers, while the chive pocket uses a daily-rolled wrapper around chives, glass noodles, and dried tofu. Neither relies on ready-made thin skins.

03
Traditional breakfast enters New Taipei Select

Hong Ji was selected as a notable Luzhou eatery in 2024 New Taipei Select, which specifically highlighted the fried-egg rice roll, handmade egg crepe, and chive pocket.

04
High recognition built on more than 1,000 reviews

Google currently shows about 3.9 from 1,688 reviews, giving first-time travelers an immediate sense of how well known the shop is.

THE STORY

The story behind this place

From Hualien to New Taipei, giving traditional breakfast new flavors

Founder Wang Long-zhan came from Hualien to New Taipei on his own and established Hong Ji after repeated setbacks. The shop retains the soy-milk-shop framework of sesame flatbread, fried dough, egg crepes, and rice rolls, while runny eggs, pad kra pao pork, and handmade flaky pastry move traditional breakfast forward.

A TASTE OF TAIWAN

Modern variations within a Chinese breakfast framework

Hong Ji preserves the traditional structure of rice rolls, egg crepes, chive pockets, sesame flatbread, and fried dough, then expands the textures with runny fried eggs, Thai basil, and layered flaky pastry. The format is familiar, but every dish has a recognizable variation.

METROBITES LOCAL TIP
Hold the fried-egg rice roll upright and start inside the cut face

The yolk in a halved rice roll easily runs down the cut surface. Hold it upright, eat small bites from the center, and gradually tighten the wrapper to keep egg from dripping onto your clothes.

✨ AI Quick Take

Near Yonglian Temple and Sanmin Senior High School Station, 弘記豆漿店 (Hong Ji Soy Milk Shop) is a major name in Luzhou breakfast. Its most captivating item is the fried-egg rice roll with a yolk that bursts out, blending gold egg, pork floss, and preserved radish with plenty of ceremony. The handmade Thai basil egg crepe and giant chive pocket are equally capable, with crisp exteriors and substantial fillings. LINE preordering and indoor air-conditioning make this lavish, cooked-to-order Chinese breakfast comfortable even on hot days.

Uncle's take: A good breakfast gives you energy to spar with the day. The fried-egg rice roll is no gimmick; the runny egg and rice are beautifully balanced, and that first bite genuinely justifies the queue.
Interior and dining atmosphere:The shop is bright and air-conditioned but has limited seats. On holidays, dine-in customers, takeaway orders, and preorder pickups arrive together. Rice rolls, handmade egg crepes, and chive pockets are mostly prepared to order, so waits are inevitable at peak time. You can preorder through LINE and collect by number. When crowded, find a seat and note the pickup flow; do not stand in the doorway studying how to photograph your fried-egg rice roll, or the people behind you will burst before the yolk does.
Location and dining notes:The address is No. 43, Zhongzheng Road, Luzhou District, New Taipei City, and the phone number is 0911 276 241. It is near Yonglian Temple and the Luzhou temple-market district, about a 10-minute walk from Sanmin Senior High School Station. It usually opens Tuesday through Sunday from 05:45 to 13:00 and closes Monday. LINE preorder rules, deadlines, and sellouts of sought-after items follow shop announcements.
● Fried-Egg Rice Roll

Fried-Egg Rice Roll wraps a whole runny egg, pork floss, preserved radish, and fried-dough pieces in hot rice. Once cut, the flowing yolk creates the signature view; eating brings chewy rice, crisp fried dough, and savory-sweet fillings together. Ask for it halved when ordering if you want the cross-section. Mind egg dripping onto your clothes—the uncle can teach you to order, but cannot clear a white shirt's name.

● Thai Basil Egg Crepe

Thai Basil Egg Crepe pairs a wrapper made daily with egg and plenty of Thai basil. Pan-frying makes the outside crisp while the inside retains chew and herbal aroma. Taste it plain before adding the house chili so the layers remain clearer than if you sauce the whole box immediately. It is not small; if you also order a fried-egg rice roll, sharing between two people is about right. Breakfast is not a team-building exercise for starch.

Uncle's take: An egg-crepe wrapper needs to be rolled in-house to have a soul. You can taste the cook's hand in this one—crisp but not greasy, proof of solid fundamentals.
● Chive Pocket

The large Chive Pocket has a crisp-fried exterior and a filling of chives, glass noodles, and dried tofu that delivers savor and fullness. The filling is hot from the pan, so tear it open to cool first. Its chive aroma is pronounced; anyone heading to a meeting or date should decide accordingly. It may sell out early at busy times, so do not wait until noon to ask fate for one.

● Sesame Flatbread with Fried Dough

Sesame flatbread with fried dough is a traditional staple. The flatbread needs flaky layers and sesame-wheat aroma, while the fried dough must remain crisp; together they create a crisp shell and airy interior. Fresh is best. As the fried dough softens and the flatbread absorbs moisture, that crunch disappears. Soy milk makes it easier to eat and also shows the shop's traditional fundamentals beyond creative rice rolls.
