THE STORY

The story behind this place

A Hong Kong chef's Cantonese legacy takes root in Taipei

Ho Pui-yuen learned Cantonese cooking in Hong Kong and was recruited to Taiwan in the 1980s. After cooking in restaurants and hotels, he founded Kowloon Seafood. The Changchun Road restaurant has lasted over thirty years and became a gathering point for Hongkongers and Cantonese chefs in Taiwan; his son Ho Yau-shing now runs the kitchen.

A TASTE OF TAIWAN

Cantonese superior stock on a Taipei round table

Cantonese seafood values freshness and the foundation of superior stock, expressed through steaming, braising, stuffing, frying, and high-heat stir-frying. Kowloon brings those Hong Kong techniques to Taipei, where e-fu noodles, scallops, and crispy chicken meet around the round table.

✨ AI quick restaurant review

Kowloon Seafood is a rare Taipei Cantonese veteran with both longevity and stability. Its convenient Changchun Road location, round tables, and private rooms suit groups and families. Steamed, stir-fried, and clay-pot dishes show range, while signatures such as creamy superior-stock prawn e-fu noodles and hawthorn-vinegar ribs are memorable. For old-school confidence and a lively Hong Kong-style table, it belongs on the list.

Uncle's saying: a veteran survives not on tricks but on heat, seasoning, and the reassuring steadiness of every meal.
Important note: the restaurant is on Changchun Road in Zhongshan District, Taipei, near Songjiang Nanjing Station and reachable on foot. It has first- and second-floor dining areas and private rooms, mainly with round tables; the first floor feels relatively spacious.
● Hawthorn and Aged-Vinegar Pork Ribs

A defining signature: ribs are fried, stir-fried, and coated in a sweet-sour hawthorn and aged-vinegar sauce. The acidity has fragrance and depth rather than thin sharpness. A lightly crisp exterior surrounds pleasantly chewy meat, with a clean sweet-sour balance that makes the plate disappear.

● King Prawns and E-fu Noodles in Creamy Superior Stock

Superior stock and cream envelop prawns and e-fu noodles with full flavor. Savory aroma arrives first, followed by silky cream, while the noodles drink up the sauce. The prawns remain prominent, producing generous Hong Kong seafood richness without excessive heaviness. It is an impressive centerpiece and a frequent first choice.

● Taro-Stuffed Scallops

The fluffy crisp taro exterior gives way to dense taro fragrance and a sweet, springy scallop center. Restrained rather than showy, its crisp-soft contrast and overlapping savoriness and ocean flavor carry old-school Hong Kong banquet charm, making it an easy highlight.

● Whole Crispy Chicken

The crisp skin is the focus, while the meat remains juicy rather than dry. Lemon sharpens the aroma and lightens the whole dish; pepper salt adds the savory force familiar from Hong Kong roast-meat shops. It is a dependable classic for chicken lovers.

  • The restaurant is on Changchun Road in Zhongshan District, Taipei, near Songjiang Nanjing Station and within walking distance.
  • It is a long-running Cantonese restaurant that often fills even on weekdays, showing steady popularity.
  • First and second floors plus private rooms, mainly round-table seating, suit group dining.
  • Good for family gatherings, company meals, older relatives, or anyone wanting a full table of hot Hong Kong-style dishes.

📌 Editor's conclusion

Kowloon Seafood is a veteran Cantonese restaurant that needs little packaging to reveal its foundations. The compact dining room carries old banquet-hall energy, while solid dishes range from sweet-sour ribs and rich noodles to layered taro and seafood. If you enjoy a varied table with the familiarity of a Hong Kong restaurant, add it to your Taipei gathering list.
