WHY VISIT

Why add it to your itinerary?

01
Fine, crisp layers pull apart in Yi Wo Si

Slapping the pastry on the hot griddle loosens Condensed Milk Yi Wo Si into fluffy fine strands, preserving both its browned, crisp edge and soft, chewy center before condensed milk adds sweetness.

02
A fresh, generous filling inside the chive pancake

The Chive and Egg Pancake combines chives, glass noodles, and egg in a filling reminiscent of a chive pocket. Flaky pastry surrounds a moist filling with bright allium flavor and gentle egg richness, making it a refreshing change between bites of richer dry noodles.

03
Compare springy noodles and griddled pastry at one table

Char siu and a soft-cooked egg enrich the dry noodles, while the Pork Pie offers thin golden pastry, scallion aroma, and meat juices. Shared around the table, they let you compare springy, crisp, and tender textures in one meal.

THE STORY

The story behind this place

From computer science to handmade pastries

Su Xiang Ju owner Luo Guanbo has a background in computer science, while his family's many years in food service inspired his own interest in cooking. He first worked with Korean sauces and later learned to make Yi Wo Si. Moving from sauces to pastries that require rolling and griddling gave the shop's handmade approach a new technical focus.

Mix from the bottom and take small bites of the pie

Localized full visit

This version localizes the original visit story while preserving the original photo sequence.

Hidden inside Apple Market near Kaohsiung's Wumiao area, 酥香居北方麵食館-武廟總店 (Su Xiang Ju Northern Noodle House – Wumiao Main Store) specializes in noodles, pastries, and soups made to order. From its signature Yi Wo Si to dry mixed noodles, rolls, and filled pies, the focus is the handmade texture of dough and noodles: toasted and crisp where they should be, yet springy where chew matters. The shop has operated here for years, pairing the hearty character of northern Chinese wheat dishes with livelier combinations of soft-cooked egg, char siu, and varied spices.

Interior and dining atmosphere:The dining area occupies two floors. Seating downstairs is limited, while the second floor helps spread out the crowd. Dark green tabletops, wood, and warm lighting give the room a cozy feel, though peak hours can still become lively and close-packed. Sauces and takeaway supplies are self-service, and trays go back to the collection area after the meal—a comfortable little eatery with a self-serve rhythm.
Location and transportation:The shop is inside Apple Market at 高雄市苓雅區武廟路135巷9號. Turn into the lane from Wumiao Road, look for the market entrance, then follow the storefront sign; it is also reasonably convenient by public transportation.
Soul-Stirring Noodles

Thick char siu, a soft-cooked egg, and greens cover the bowl, with a special sauce tucked underneath. Mix thoroughly before eating so the noodles are evenly coated in its savory-sweet aroma. The noodles are springy and pleasantly chewy; the char siu carries richness without turning dry. Sweet-savory marinated pork and velvety yolk overlap, gradually softening the dry noodles' distinct sauce flavor into a rounder finish.

黯然銷魂麵

Condensed Milk Yi Wo Si

The cook gives the pastry an extra slapping on the hot griddle to loosen its layers; lift it with chopsticks and it pulls into fine strands. The edges are crisp and fragrant, while the inside stays soft and chewy. Its delicate layers slowly open up on the palate before condensed milk supplies a sweet finish. Part snack and part display of pastry craft, it is best shared hot, when both the browned, crisp rim and supple center are at their peak.

煉乳一窩絲

Chive and Egg Pancake

The outer pastry is griddled until flaky and puffed, then filled with chives, glass noodles, and egg in a generous combination reminiscent of a chive pocket. Pungent chives lead, while egg and glass noodles soften the texture. Bite through and the thin, crisp shell contrasts with the moist filling. Fresh-tasting but never slight, it works well between dry noodles and richer pastries.

韭菜蛋餅

Pork Pie

The pie is evenly griddled to a golden color, with a thin, crisp wrapper around a generous pork filling. Bite in while hot and sweet, savory juices escape; scallions add both a fresh snap and aromatic bite that livens up the meat. It looks modest in size but delivers crispness, tenderness, and juiciness together. Take a small first bite when it arrives to prevent the hot juices from spilling suddenly.

豬肉餡餅
Ordering notes:Everything is made to order, so leave some time for preparation during busy periods. Ordering is by scanned code; utensils and sauces are self-service, and diners return their own trays afterward. Yi Wo Si and the pies are both best straight from the griddle: the former is good for sharing, while the latter holds hot juices and should be eaten carefully.
  • For a complete main dish:Soul-Stirring Noodles come with char siu, a soft-cooked egg, and springy noodles.
  • Signature pick for a first visit:Condensed Milk Yi Wo Si best showcases the handmade layers that pull into fine strands.
  • If you prefer savory snacks:Chive and Egg Pancake tastes light and fresh, while Pork Pie wins with meat juices and toasted fragrance.
Su Xiang Ju brings contrasting wheat-based textures together at one table: springy dry noodles, crisp pulled pastry, fluffy egg pancake, and juicy filled pie. Each of the four dishes has a clear personality, yet they reset the palate for one another. Sharing them in a group makes it easier to experience the range created by handmade dough and careful griddling. Start with the dry mixed noodles, then cut up the Yi Wo Si, egg pancake, and pie to share; savory sweetness, aromatic chives, and meat juices unfold in turn. The combination is satisfying without missing the shop's most representative pastry skills, especially for anyone keen to compare different dough textures in a single meal.
