THE STORY

The story behind this place

Bringing farmhouse memories to the table

Owner Chen Liangwei originally worked in transport in Taichung. After moving north with his family, his interest in eating led him into restaurants. He wanted to recover the human warmth of farmhouse food, bringing memories of sun-drying vegetables and stewing them with meat into an urban restaurant, making humble ingredients a reason to gather.

METROBITES LOCAL TIP
Fern shoots can be richly flavored too

Although it is a vegetable dish, fern shoots with dried preserved greens have pronounced salty-sour flavor and a fermented aroma. If you expect something light, check whether everyone likes preserved greens before ordering.

✨ AI Dining Notes

豐盛食堂 (Fengsheng Canteen) is tucked around Dongmen and Yongkang Street, serving home-style Taiwanese food and shared dishes. Wok skills and distinctive combinations support the table instead of extravagant plating. Farmhouse Stir-Fry turns stinky tofu, century egg and chives into a rice-friendly focus; Salted Egg Yolk Water Bamboo is sweet-savory and crisp; Sesame-Oil Pork Jowl Soup is warming with a chewy bite. Fern shoots with dried preserved greens are a more taste-dependent creative pairing. Come with friends for hot food, prepared for some dishes to be dependable and others not to suit everyone.

Uncle's words of wisdom: Home cooking does not need every plate to win a prize. A couple of dishes that make people compete for rice and a pot that warms the stomach already make a meal worthwhile.
Setting and atmosphere:The space and service have the warmth of a home-style Taiwanese restaurant, suited to a few friends or relatives sharing food without sitting stiffly over a plate. There are handwritten order slips and possibly off-menu dishes on the wall or introduced verbally; when busy, check the bill before paying. The rhythm here is to help yourself when hot food arrives and eat rice while warm. Do not make everyone wait for the politest person to lift their chopsticks.
Getting there and dining tips:The address is 臺北市大安區麗水街1之3號, near Dongmen (東門站) and the Yongkang Street shopping area. White-cut chicken usually requires advance ordering; call first if you want it at short notice. Check the handwritten slip and off-menu dishes when ordering and paying. Groups can combine a rice-friendly dish or two with a vegetable and a meat dish, rather than making every plate intensely flavored.
● Farmhouse Stir-Fry

Fried stinky tofu, century egg and chives go into the wok together, and none of these forceful ingredients is shy. Stinky tofu adds a crisp exterior and fermented aroma, century egg brings sticky richness and its distinctive smell, and chives add pungency. The layers are bold and call for rice. If fermented flavors bother you, do not force the challenge; strong-aroma fans may keep reaching for more. Have rice ready instead of discovering when the dish lands that your staple is still on its way.

● Salted Egg Yolk Water Bamboo

Salted egg yolk evenly coats the water bamboo, and frying makes that golden-yolk aroma clear, with sweet-salty flavor and fragrant oil arriving together. The center retains moisture and delicate sweetness: rich outside, crisp and juicy within, so the plate is not just powderiness. Even when already full, you may take another couple of pieces while chatting. But salted-yolk dishes do contain fat, so put a lighter vegetable alongside for balance.

Uncle's words of wisdom: That salted-yolk aroma is good at tricking you into another couple of pieces. Only when the chopsticks stop do you remember that you were the one who said, 'Just one bite.'
● Sesame-Oil Pork Jowl Soup

Mature ginger is fried until properly fragrant, with sesame oil and wine in balanced proportions. The hot broth is comfortable to drink rather than sending only alcohol fumes up your nose. Pork jowl remains springy, with a crisp chew rather than stubborn toughness, and the portion holds its place among the dishes. It is especially fitting in cool weather and goes smoothly with rice. Sip the broth hot on arrival; discussing the sesame aroma only after it cools rather lets the kitchen down.

● Fern Shoots with Dried Preserved Greens

The fern shoots themselves are tender and smooth, while the preserved greens bring saltiness, acidity and fermentation. Their personalities do not quite connect. The first bites feel novel, but later the flavors become somewhat muddled and heavy; it is not the table's most enduring vegetable choice. Preserved-greens fans can try a little, but if you expect a refreshing vegetable, this takes another direction. Creativity has courage; the mouth still gets a vote.

💡 Ordering Notes

On a first visit, pair Farmhouse Stir-Fry or Salted Egg Yolk Water Bamboo with rice, then add Sesame-Oil Pork Jowl Soup and something lighter. Fern shoots with preserved greens divide tastes, so check the group's willingness first. For white-cut chicken, remember to call ahead.

  • Location:臺北市大安區麗水街1之3號, near Dongmen (東門站) and Yongkang Street.
  • Type:Home-style Taiwanese cuisine, stir-fries and shared group dishes.
  • Highlights:Handwritten slips, off-menu dishes and advance-order dishes, from bold rice-friendly flavors to warming sesame-oil broth.
  • Suited to:Meals with friends or family, and anyone seeking Taiwanese hot dishes around Dongmen.

📌 Editor's Take

Fengsheng Canteen's appeal is not that every dish plays it safe, but that home cooking has clear personality. Farmhouse Stir-Fry delivers fermentation with gusto, Salted Egg Yolk Water Bamboo stays crisp and moist, and Sesame-Oil Pork Jowl Soup is the reliable stomach-warmer. The fern-and-preserved-greens pairing is more divisive, and that assessment stays honest. Bring a few people willing to share, ask about off-menu dishes, arrange the white-cut chicken order, and balance rich with light for a more comfortable meal.
