Original Intestine Vermicelli

The bonito broth is savory without feeling overly thick, and the slightly coarse vermicelli stays smooth rather than mushy. The braised intestine is clean-tasting, springy, and chewy. Mild in its original form, this is the best choice if you want to taste the broth and intestine first.

Tianbula

Sliced and stick-shaped tianbula keep a springy bite, joined by pork blood rice cake, fried tofu, fish balls, and chikuwa for a filling mix. There was no daikon in this bowl, something to note if you especially like the clean sweetness of stewed radish.

METROBITES LOCAL TIP
Taste it plain first, then add the heat in stages

Start with a few bites of the original vermicelli, then mix in a little spicy preserved radish, and add mala sauce according to your heat tolerance. Even a small spoonful of the mala sauce is powerful, so adding it gradually helps preserve the bonito aroma of the broth.

Fuzhong late-night food | A-Guo Tianbula & Mala Vermicelli: a spicy midnight bowl for Banqiao night owls

When people talk about late-night food in Banqiao, A-Guo Tianbula & Mala Vermicelli is probably on many night owls’ lists. This long-running Banqiao snack spot used to operate from a stall in front of De En Tang Optical and later moved to a storefront across the road. It remains a place many people think of when they want vermicelli or tianbula late at night.

A-Guo Tianbula & Mala Vermicelli is at 新北市板橋區館前東路 25 號, near Fuzhong on the Taipei Metro. It is about a 10-minute walk from Exit 2. Hours run from 9 p.m. until 3 and a half a.m., making this a truly late-night option. If you are looking for food around Fuzhong, late-night eats in Banqiao, or suddenly crave a hot bowl of spicy vermicelli in the middle of the night, this is one to keep on your night-owl list.

Location and transportation

A-Guo Tianbula & Mala Vermicelli is at 板橋館前東路 25 號, around the Fuzhong commercial area. From Exit 2 of Fuzhong, it is about a 10-minute walk.

There is still a fair amount of traffic and pedestrian activity in this area at night, along with plenty of local Banqiao snacks and late-night shops. A-Guo stays open very late, from 21:00 to 03:30, which is convenient for people finishing work late, coming out of a movie, ending a get-together, or simply getting hungry after midnight.

It stays popular, though, and people sometimes wait even before service officially starts. If you want to avoid a long line, consider skipping the opening rush or the busiest late-night period.

Setting and dining atmosphere

A-Guo Tianbula & Mala Vermicelli is not about comfortable décor. It has the classic feel of a Banqiao late-night snack shop. Everyone comes for much the same reason: order a bowl of vermicelli, add a bowl of tianbula, eat it hot, and move on.

Late at night you often see people just off work, night owls, and regulars who have made a special detour for a craving. The sight of people still lining up for vermicelli after dark is itself a recognizable slice of Banqiao nightlife.

Menu and ordering

A-Guo keeps things simple, focusing mainly on vermicelli and tianbula, with no small or large bowl sizes. Many customers order one bowl of vermicelli and one bowl of tianbula. For two people, ordering one of each to share also works well.

Seasonings on the table let you adjust the flavor yourself, including spicy preserved radish, mala sauce, and black vinegar. This is one of the more distinctive parts of eating A-Guo’s vermicelli: plain, you taste the bonito broth and intestine; for a bolder flavor, add the preserved radish or mala sauce yourself.

One warning: the mala sauce has very noticeable heat, so do not add too much at first. Start with one small spoonful to test the flavor; that is the safer approach.

Original Intestine Vermicelli

The Original Intestine Vermicelli is a bowl many people are willing to line up for late at night. The broth has a clear bonito aroma and is not thickened too heavily, so it stays smooth and hot without turning gluey.

The vermicelli itself is slightly coarse, giving it some presence rather than dissolving into softness. With the bonito broth, the overall taste is relatively light but still savory enough to feel comforting late at night.

The intestine is cleaned well, with no obvious off smell, and has a springy, chewy bite. It is braised enough to take on flavor while retaining the aroma of the intestine itself, and it goes naturally with the vermicelli.

Even plain, this is already a reliably tasty Banqiao vermicelli bowl. What makes A-Guo more memorable, however, is the set of seasonings on the table.

Spicy preserved radish and mala sauce

The spicy preserved radish is well worth adding. It does more than bring heat: the preserved radish contributes savory aroma and texture. Mixed into the vermicelli, it adds more layers, turning the lighter bonito broth into something more appetizing and more in line with a bold late-night snack.

The mala sauce is another key point. Its heat is obvious; even one small spoonful makes itself known and gradually warms your scalp. Chili lovers will enjoy the fragrant heat, but if you do not normally eat spicy food, add it slowly in small amounts or a warming bowl can quickly become a sweaty one.

My preferred way to eat it is to take a few bites plain, add a little spicy preserved radish, and only then add one small spoonful of mala sauce if needed. That way you still get the original bonito aroma while also tasting the signature personality of A-Guo’s mala vermicelli.

Tianbula

Besides the vermicelli, Tianbula is also popular here. The bowl contains sliced and stick-shaped tianbula along with pork blood rice cake, fried tofu, fish balls, chikuwa, and other ingredients, giving it a satisfying amount of food.

The tianbula is not cooked to mush; it keeps a springy chew. Fried tofu absorbs the broth nicely, while the pork blood rice cake adds heft. Overall, it is a classic bowl that pairs naturally with vermicelli.

The one thing I missed was daikon. For me, a piece of white radish soaked with broth would add freshness and help cut through richness and heat. Especially after adding mala sauce to the vermicelli, a piece of radish would be just right.

Still, in terms of portion and pairing, the tianbula is worth ordering. The vermicelli brings heat and smoothness, while the tianbula brings fullness and varied textures. Together, the two bowls make a complete Banqiao late-night meal.

Who it suits

A-Guo Tianbula & Mala Vermicelli suits anyone searching for late-night food in Banqiao, food around Fuzhong, or Banqiao mala vermicelli. Its late hours are especially useful if you only get hungry after 9 p.m. or want something hot in the middle of the night.

It also suits people who enjoy bold seasoning and like adding spicy preserved radish or mala sauce. The original vermicelli itself is mild and easy to eat; adding the heat is what gives it more personality.

Chili lovers can go straight for the mala flavor. If you do not eat spicy food, though, there is no need to worry: the Original Intestine Vermicelli works on its own. The mala sauce is added by the diner, so you do not have to start with an aggressive level of heat.

Afterword

There is a reason A-Guo Tianbula & Mala Vermicelli has become a late-night favorite among Banqiao night owls. The menu is simple and neither the vermicelli nor tianbula is flashy, but the flavors are steady, the hours run late, and the spicy preserved radish and mala sauce give the vermicelli a strong midnight identity.

On this visit, the bonito broth of the Original Intestine Vermicelli was light and smooth, and the intestine was clean-tasting with a good chew. Spicy preserved radish added more layers, while the mala sauce is best added gradually by people who can handle heat. The tianbula had plenty of ingredients and a good texture; I only wished there had been some daikon.

If you happen to be walking around Fuzhong or looking for a hot late-night bowl in Banqiao, A-Guo is an easy stop. For a first visit, I suggest ordering Original Intestine Vermicelli with Tianbula and adding the table seasonings little by little until the heat lands where you like it.
