THE STORY

The story behind this place

Bringing the family's Kaohsiung flavors to Taipei

Jamie moved north from Kaohsiung for work and wanted others living away from home to have somewhere to rest and eat, so longing for home became North House. Shrimp from her father's farm and her grandmother's braised beef shank create tangible family ties and carry southern memories into the Taiwanese set meals.

Dad Loves the Superb Beef-and-Chicken Duo

Maqaw and green-peppercorn chicken breast sits like a flower beside peppercorn-braised beef shank. The sous-vide chicken is tender, fresh and lightly lemony; low-braised beef with peppercorns and dried chilies is mildly spicy, soft yet chewy. The two aromas contrast clearly while staying balanced.

Dad Loves North House's Shrimp Surf-and-Turf Feast

Peppercorn-braised beef shank meets ecologically farmed Kaohsiung drunken shrimp. The beef has a sinewy chew and gentle peppercorn-chili aroma; shrimp from the family's farm is sweet, springy, and delicately wine-scented. Its shell is prepared for easy eating, making the tender-chewy land-and-sea contrast obvious.

Honey Cake MetroBites visit photo

Honey Cake

Served after the main, this honey cake uses trehalose instead of ordinary sugar for a clean sweetness while retaining natural honey aroma. The simple slice is fine and fluffy, never heavy or sticky, refreshing the palate after meat, miso, and sides with a gentle finish.

A TASTE OF TAIWAN

From a southern fish farm to a Taipei table

Shrimp from the family's ecological Kaohsiung farm, black brown rice from Fuli in Hualien, and maqaw-spiced chicken bring ingredients from around Taiwan into one set. Familiar braises and drunken shrimp meet sous-vide technique and surf-and-turf pairings in personal Taiwanese meals.

✨ AI Quick Review

North House faces Huashan Creative Park on Zhongxiao East Road in Taipei's Zhongzheng District, about a seven-minute walk from Exit Two of Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station. It organizes homestyle Taiwanese cooking into individual set meals. Founded by friends living in the north, it uses ecologically farmed Kaohsiung seafood, Taiwanese meats, and organic black brown rice. It suits a meal before or after an exhibition, gatherings with friends, and anyone wanting several Taiwanese ingredients at once.

Interior and dining atmosphere:The small interior has an industrial feel, leaving walls intentionally rough beside wood tables and simple tableware, so refined plating retains homestyle warmth. Seats are limited and fill at popular times; staff can provide baskets so bags do not crowd chair backs or legs. Flower-like circular plating clearly separates mains, black brown rice, vegetables, and soup, creating a setting for slowly enjoying a full set.
Location and dining notes:The address is No. 40, Section Two, Zhongxiao East Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, on the 1st floor, opposite Huashan Creative Park and about a seven-minute walk from Exit Two of Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station. Order by scanning a code, with paper menus for the table to share. Seats are limited and business steady, so arranging a seat in advance is reassuring. Sets generally include vegetables, black brown rice, sweet potato, soft-boiled egg, and soup; dessert follows the main.
Dad Loves the Superb Beef-and-Chicken Duo

Maqaw and green-peppercorn chicken breast and fragrant peppercorn-braised beef shank form a flower. Sous-vide chicken is tender, with refreshing spice and a faint lemon note. Beef shank is slowly braised with peppercorns and dried chilies, mildly hot, soft yet pleasantly chewy. Their different meat aromas remain balanced on one plate.

Dad Loves North House's Shrimp Surf-and-Turf Feast

This surf-and-turf pairs peppercorn-braised beef shank with ecologically farmed Kaohsiung drunken shrimp. Beef retains a sinewy chew and gentle peppercorn-chili fragrance. Raised by the owner's family in an ecological seawater system, the shrimp is sweet, springy, and delicately wine-scented. Prepared shells make eating easy, and tender beef against bouncy shrimp creates a clear contrast.

Honey Cake

The closing honey cake uses trehalose instead of ordinary sugar, giving cleaner sweetness without losing natural honey aroma. Its fine, fluffy crumb is never heavy or sticky and refreshes the palate after meat, miso, and sides. With no elaborate decoration, the simple slice focuses on softness and gentle honey fragrance.
