WHY VISIT

Why add it to your itinerary?

01
Soy Milk Seafood Hot Pot beyond the stir-fries

Soy milk broth combines seafood and vegetables for richness beyond the stir-fries. Sharing among several people changes the rhythm from crisp dishes to sipping soup.

02
Share stir-fries beside vintage posters

Old posters, lights, tables, and chairs create a nostalgic mood. With liver, squid, and other stir-fries, the setting suits friends talking around a table and sharing dishes one by one.

THE STORY

The story behind this place

From a technology company back to Mom's restaurant

林廷庭 originally worked at a technology company. To continue the restaurant operated by her mother, she turned to food service. She began by learning to cook, exploring as she worked in the kitchen, and gradually developed hot pots and stir-fries. The story of 新味珍 thus gained a chapter in which a daughter took over the family restaurant and slowly created her own flavors.

Stir-Fried Pork Liver MetroBites visit photo

Stir-Fried Pork Liver

Thick liver slices are fried and then stir-fried, crisp and aromatic outside but tender within. Deep seasoning makes this one for diners who appreciate organ-meat texture.

Salted Egg Yolk Squid MetroBites visit photo

Salted Egg Yolk Squid

Salted egg yolk forms a fragrant, crisp coating while the squid retains tenderness and spring. Savoriness and seafood texture meet in each bite, best shared hot.

Soy Milk Seafood Hot Pot MetroBites visit photo

Soy Milk Seafood Hot Pot

Soy milk broth joins seafood and vegetables for a rich, fresh, sweet soup. It suits group sharing and adds a warming broth beside a table of stir-fries.

FIRST VISIT

First visit: how to order

01
Wait for the ingredients to cook after the hot pot arrives

After the Soy Milk Seafood Hot Pot arrives, it still needs heating. Confirm that the seafood and vegetables are cooked before sharing; the actual wait depends on the burner and staff guidance.

METROBITES LOCAL TIP
Catch the freshness of soy milk broth with youtiao

After tasting the plain broth, dip a piece of youtiao into it. This brings rich soy milk and fresh seafood flavor into one bite, with a texture distinct from drinking the soup directly.

Haha, brother, this 新味珍復古熱炒 really made me look twice.新味珍復古熱炒 (Xin Wei Zhen Fu Gu Re Chao) visit photo

These days, plenty of young people talk about escaping technology jobs and offices to take over small shops from an older generation. It sounds artsy, but few truly do it. Ms. 林 was different. She took off her heels, tied on an apron, and learned stir-frying from zero, determined to keep her mother's shop and develop her own flavor. Is that not the most real comeback story of our generation? So grounded that you want to applaud.

I walked in a little after five in the evening. From 萬芳醫院站 · Wanfang Hospital, I ducked into the plain alley beside Xingde Market, and the ground floor was already full. Posters, vintage lamps, tables, and chairs from the fifties and sixties filled the shop. It felt like entering a time tunnel, yet unmistakably Taiwanese.

This time I only want to talk about the three dishes that impressed me most:

Stir-Fried Pork Liver新味珍復古熱炒 (Xin Wei Zhen Fu Gu Re Chao) visit photo
The thick liver slices were fried crisp outside and tender within. Each bite felt like those small surprises in life that look ordinary before suddenly bursting out—no off smell, deeply seasoned, and swept clean by our hungry crowd in under three minutes. So satisfying!

Salted Egg Yolk Squid新味珍復古熱炒 (Xin Wei Zhen Fu Gu Re Chao) visit photo
The salted egg yolk coating was so aromatic and crisp it felt like fireworks in my mouth, while the squid stayed springy. As I ate, one thought appeared: some things are flamboyant outside but exactly gentle enough within. That is this dish. Highly recommended.

Soy Milk Seafood Hot Pot新味珍復古熱炒 (Xin Wei Zhen Fu Gu Re Chao) visit photo
This pot was the real event. Broth simmered from charcoal-heated soy milk was so fresh it made you question life. The abundant seafood and vegetables needed twenty minutes to boil, and everyone stared while waiting; once we started, we could not stop. Stuffing a broth-soaked youtiao into my mouth, that rich, fresh sweetness felt like losing track of time in a conversation with old friends.

The other dishes were good too, but these three will stay in my mind for days.

Anyway, this shop has no flashy packaging, yet leaves you comfortable and happy. Next time you come to Wenshan, I will take you directly. Guaranteed no bad choice.
