THE STORY

The story behind this place

From taxi-funded startup to the Nong'an Street dining cluster

Huang Yi-jui began as a Japanese-restaurant apprentice and drove a taxi after work to save startup funds faster. In 1992, he opened the small Mitsui eatery on Nong'an Street with family and partners. More than thirty years later, the brand still centers on this street and has encouraged a cluster of Japanese restaurants nearby.

Assorted Sashimi and Raw Shrimp

Several fish, scallops, and raw shrimp offer tender, springy, and sweet textures. A little soy sauce and wasabi is enough, making this the clearest test of the day's seafood.

Green Salad MetroBites visit photo

Green Salad

Fresh greens, onion, and fruit awaken the palate, while a whole abalone adds bounce and ocean flavor. Quiet in portion yet effective as an opening.

Pan-Seared Fish MetroBites visit photo

Pan-Seared Fish

The fish is seared golden outside yet moist and tender within. A little lemon cuts the richness, making it suitable for diners avoiding raw food.

A TASTE OF TAIWAN

Taipei's customized path for Japanese courses

Mitsui retains the paced sequence of a Japanese course with seasonal seafood, while staff first ask about budget and restrictions and adjust raw dishes, cooked dishes, soup, and rice for each table. This has become a mature customized model for upscale Taipei dining.

✨ AI quick restaurant review

Mitsui emphasizes ingredients and customization. From greens and seafood to cooked dishes and soup, the meal is steady and layered. It suits diners who value freshness, refined Japanese cooking, or a polished yet substantial gathering place.

Uncle's saying: the strength here is not tricks, but protecting each ingredient's own flavor consistently enough to inspire confidence.
Important note: the restaurant is on Nong'an Street in Zhongshan District, Taipei, near MRT and the city center. It has private rooms and a second-floor prep area, with a relatively formal atmosphere. Tell staff about excluded ingredients when ordering so later dishes can be adjusted.
● Green Salad

Fresh greens open the palate, joined by a prepared whole abalone of notable size. The abalone is springy and firm without being tiringly hard. Restrained rather than showy, the combination immediately communicates ingredient quality: a quiet but confident opening.

● Pan-Seared and Fried Fish

Guests avoiding raw food also have good options. Pan-seared fish is aromatic outside, tender within, and clean rather than greasy; lemon brightens it further. Fried fish offers a different crisp texture, showing thoughtful accommodation for varied tastes.
