“A generous seafood bowl concentrates several kinds of sashimi, shellfish, and crustaceans, while grilled dishes add mentaiko filling and the careful heat control of a whole fish. The owner progressed from Japanese-cuisine apprentice to opening this Zhonghe counter shop, and his hands-on fish selection and preparation give the place a clear culinary point of view.”

WHY VISIT

Why add it to your itinerary?

01
Raw fish, shrimp, shellfish, and eel in one bowl

The Manly Seafood Bowl lays salmon, swordfish, tuna, squid, shrimp, crabmeat, eel, and scallops over vinegared rice, ideal for anyone who wants to compare many kinds of seafood at once.

02
From apprenticeship to personally selecting the fish

The owner trained under different Japanese-cuisine chefs from age 18 and still personally selects and prepares fish after opening his own shop, keeping freshness and clean handling at the center.

03
Precisely grilled dishes beyond the raw seafood

Mentaiko chicken wings wrap a rich filling in crisp skin, while the grilled tilefish contrasts thin, fragrant skin with tender, juicy flesh.

04
High visibility built on more than 4,000 reviews

Google currently shows about 4.3 stars from 4,131 reviews, a straightforward popularity signal for first-time visitors.

05
Check the daily board before adding dishes

Beyond the regular menu, a wall blackboard lists the fish available that day. Order anything you want early; once sold out, it gets crossed off.

THE STORY

The story behind this place

From a bento-shop family to a Japanese counter

Owner Lin Xue-rong grew up around his family’s affordable Taiwanese bento shop. Rather than directly taking over the family business, he first encountered Western cooking and then, from age 18, trained under different Japanese-cuisine chefs in ingredient handling and cooking.

He later chose Zhonghe for his own shop, valuing its steady foot traffic and convenient links to Taipei City and Banqiao. Personally selecting and preparing the fish continues the focus and quality standards he learned as an apprentice.

Manly Seafood Bowl

Salmon, swordfish, tuna, squid, shrimp, crabmeat, eel, scallops, and other seafood cover vinegared rice. The exact fish changes with the day’s supply, but both portion and variety are concentrated in one bowl.

Mentaiko Chicken Wings MetroBites visit photo

Mentaiko Chicken Wings

The wings are grilled until crisp outside, revealing a generous mentaiko filling only after you bite in. They arrive very hot inside, so letting them cool slightly and eating in sections is the safer approach.

Grilled Tilefish MetroBites visit photo

Grilled Tilefish

A whole tilefish is grilled until its thin skin turns crisp while the flesh stays tender and juicy. Taste it plain first, then dip lightly in pepper salt, and watch for fine bones when sharing.

A TASTE OF TAIWAN

A generous Japanese-seafood rhythm at a Zhonghe counter

Sashimi and seafood bowls put variety and portion size first, with scallops, sweet shrimp, and salmon each keeping their own sweetness and texture. Grilled fish and mentaiko chicken wings add crisp skin, charred aroma, and heat as a second flavor line. The owner, raised in a Taiwanese bento-shop family and trained in Japanese cuisine, brings personally selected fish and restrained seasoning into a neighborhood counter shop.

FIRST VISIT

First visit: how to order

01
Confirm party size and hold time when reserving

Seats fill quickly during peak meals, and incomplete parties may affect seating. Agree on an arrival time with your group and confirm the current reservation rules with the restaurant.

02
Check the fish board as soon as you arrive

Daily fish specials can sell out early. Ask about any grilled fish or special cuts you want first, then pair them with a seafood bowl from the regular menu.

03
Allow time for made-to-order dishes and bring cash

Sashimi, nigiri, and large platters are mostly prepared to order, so waits can stretch during busy periods. You can also reconfirm the payment method when reserving.

METROBITES LOCAL TIP
Eat the seafood bowl in parts to compare each topping

The Manly Seafood Bowl has many toppings, so do not mix everything in every bite. Try the sashimi, shrimp, and scallops first, then move to the crabmeat and vinegared rice, using only a little wasabi so the differences stay clear.

✨ AI Visit Snapshot

Er Nan Xiao Jia Cuisine on the third section of Zhongshan Road in Zhonghe, near Global Mall Zhonghe, is a major name among Japanese restaurants in the Zhonghe–Yonghe area. Its signature is generous seafood and unapologetically large cuts, and lines form quickly once service starts. Counter seats let you watch the chefs shape sushi, and diners are usually welcomed with edamame. The restaurant accepts cash only and does not hold late reservations. Ingredient freshness and portions are sincere, but the room often feels like a full-house battle zone and waits can be long, so it suits diners who are not in a hurry and want a serious sashimi meal.

Uncle note: The line outside can be ridiculous and the rules are strict, but once that plate of thick-cut sushi arrives, the pieces are big enough to make Uncle stop complaining.
Dining room and atmosphere:There are counter seats where you can watch sushi being made, and edamame is usually served after you sit down. Peak periods fill quickly, while sashimi, nigiri, and large platters are prepared to order, so waiting is normal. The wall board lists the day’s fish; order favorites early because a crossed-out item is truly gone. This is a place for a slow meal, not somewhere to test the chef’s speed right before your movie starts.
Location and dining notes:The address is 新北市中和區中山路三段36號, phone 02 8227 5280, near Global Mall Zhonghe; drivers can consider the mall parking lot. Usual hours are Wednesday through Sunday 11:30 to 14:30 and 17:00 to 21:30, with Monday and Tuesday closed. Payment is cash only; confirm reservations, hold time, service charge, and the day’s fish by phone. An incomplete party may affect seating, so do not make the whole table wait while one person searches for parking.
● Manly Seafood Bowl

The Manly Seafood Bowl covers vinegared rice with salmon, swordfish, tuna, squid, shrimp, crabmeat, eel, scallops, and other seafood, with exact fish depending on the day’s delivery. Portions are generous: try the raw fish and shrimp first, then work through the crab and rice, with only a little wasabi. With so many toppings, every bite does not need everything mixed together; separating them makes it easier to discover your favorite.

● Hokkaido Scallop & Sweet Shrimp Bowl

The sweet shrimp are large, with a dense, delicate, and naturally sweet texture. The scallops keep substantial thickness and gain an extra aroma from a light sear. Salmon adds both color and silky texture, bringing the sweetness of shrimp and shellfish together in one bowl—an especially focused choice for diners who like crustaceans, scallops, and lightly torched flavors.

Uncle note: The day’s specials on the small blackboard can be even more interesting than the regular menu, but order quickly—wait too long and the chef will simply cross them off.
● Mentaiko Chicken Wings

They may look like simple grilled wings, but each one is filled generously with mentaiko, whose aroma opens up after the first bite. The skin is grilled crisp for a distinct crunch, while the filling deepens the flavor. The inside is very hot when served, so let it cool slightly and bite it in sections to keep the crisp texture without rushing.

● Grilled Tilefish

The whole tilefish shows the chef’s control of heat: its thin skin turns crisp while the flesh stays tender and juicy, creating a clear outside-inside contrast. Try it plain for the roasted aroma, or touch it lightly to pepper salt for extra savoriness. The fish has many fine bones, so pull the meat apart slowly and check carefully when sharing.

💡 Ordering Note

When reserving, confirm party size and hold time. On arrival, check the fish board first, then order the Manly Seafood Bowl or eight-piece nigiri; add a little engawa between bites and take your time picking bones from the miso soup. Cash only, and allow extra waiting time during peak periods.

  • Location:中和區中山路三段36號, near Global Mall Zhonghe.
  • Type:Sashimi, seafood bowls, nigiri, and Japanese small plates.
  • Highlights:Thick cuts, counter-made sushi, and daily fish-board specials.
  • Good for:Unhurried Japanese-food gatherings, seafood lovers, and diners willing to reserve early.

📌 Editor’s Take

Er Nan Xiao Jia Cuisine has stayed popular for years because its thick-cut seafood is genuinely generous rather than stingy. The Manly Seafood Bowl arrives overflowing with toppings, and even the fresh-fish miso soup with shrimp heads carries a grounded, everyday sense of value and freshness. It is not for diners who hate queues or lack patience, but if you want to relax and eat a big spread of sashimi, this long-running Taiwanese-style Japanese shop still delivers.
