THE STORY

The story behind this place

A family almond aroma carried forward from Yancheng nightlife

The story of 五十年杏仁茶 is tied to Yancheng’s earlier nightlife. During the years when U.S. servicemen came here on leave, the family first sold handmade drinks such as milk tea and soy milk, adding almond tea later. Sitting on Lainan Street for supper today, the drink still offers a small window into how life in the old district changed.

Second-generation owner Huang Baifo once worked as a musician before taking over his parents’ shop and continuing his father’s almond-tea method. The almond skins are removed by hand, then the nuts are cooked with rice and filtered into a silky drink. The inheritance lives in these repetitive daily preparations and in the familiar almond aroma at the table.

FIRST VISIT

First visit: how to order

01
Order and pay separately at the two shops

Food from Fifty Years Almond Tea and the neighboring noodle stall can be eaten at the same table, but orders and payments are handled separately. If you want both, confirm each order with the respective shop so they do not get mixed up.

METROBITES LOCAL TIP
Split the bun first, then taste the hot filling slowly

The filling inside a freshly toasted bun can be runny. Split it open first, wait a little, then take small bites. This helps manage the heat while letting you compare the lightly charred outside with the soft bread.
