WHY VISIT

Why add it to your itinerary?

01
From crab rice cakes to slow-braised meat

Green-crab rice cakes absorb roe, savor, and sweet bean sauce, while Dongpo pork uses at least half a day of low heat. Together they compare sauce reduction and heat control.

02
A traceable master-chef lineage

Founder-chef Li Qingxing studied under Tang Yongchang of Fuxingyuan and served as general manager and executive chef of Shanghai Shanghai, giving the cuisine a clear lineage.

THE STORY

The story behind this place

2010 SINCE

From Fuxingyuan lineage to a Xindian table

Hongsu established its brand in 2010. Founder and executive chef Li Qingxing studied under Tang Yongchang of Fuxingyuan Restaurant, later led several kitchens, and served as general manager and executive chef of Shanghai Shanghai.

That experience takes the Shanghai-Jiangsu-Zhejiang menu beyond names: green crab braises with rice cakes, Dongpo pork gains tenderness through low heat, and drunken chicken resets the rhythm between rich sauces.

Sauce-Tossed Green Crab with Rice Cakes

Green crab and rice cakes braise together, coating the cakes in crab savor and sweet bean sauce. Eaten hot, glossy sauce and a chewy center arrive together.

Dongpo Pork MetroBites visit photo

Dongpo Pork

A special sauce braises slowly for at least half a day, softening fat while keeping lean meat moist—the clearest lesson in the kitchen's heat control.

Shaoxing Drunken Chicken MetroBites visit photo

Shaoxing Drunken Chicken

Sliced skin-on free-range chicken combines springy skin and meat, with gentle Shaoxing aroma emerging as you chew to lighten a table of rich sauces.

FIRST VISIT

First visit: how to order

01
Open the palate with drunken chicken

Start with cool Shaoxing drunken chicken and its gentle wine aroma before green-crab rice cakes and Dongpo pork, making the progression clearer.

02
Separate the two rich-sauce mains

Green-crab rice cakes emphasize crab savor, sweet bean sauce, and chew, while Dongpo pork focuses on slow-braised meat. Preserved-radish omelet between them prevents fatigue.

✨ AI Quick Review

Hidden beside Tangquan Community on Xiyuan Road in Xindian, Hongsu Shanghai Classic Snacks inherits the craft of masters from former Taipei landmark Fuxingyuan Restaurant. It ignores lavish décor and wins diners with authentic Jiangsu-Zhejiang cooking once served to political and cultural figures. From half-day Dongpo pork to green-crab rice cakes rich with crab, it preserves old Shanghai techniques nearing disappearance—a precious authentic taste in Xindian.

Uncle's saying: Much Shanghai food is repeatedly modified, but Hongsu's adherence to old methods is evident. Culinary skill creates this flavor, not crystal lamps.
Setting and dining atmosphere:The restaurant seats about 70 and has two private rooms. Its plain, steady traditional setting suits families, elder birthdays, and banquet tables. Jiangsu-Zhejiang cold dishes, seafood, and slow braises need time and table space; a small party can overorder. Large groups should reserve and discuss the menu first rather than passing it around after arrival.
Location and dining notes:The address is Xiaotangquan, No. 259, Xiyuan Road, Xindian District, New Taipei City, and the phone number is 02 8667 2323. It is about a 10-minute walk from Shisizhang Station. Official information lists 11:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 21:00, open year-round, with parking, cards, and private rooms. Reconfirm holiday, room, and parking arrangements while reserving. Plan transport and dishes together to reduce elders' wait.
● Preserved-Radish Omelet

This is a thick baked omelet, not a thin sheet. The heated exterior forms fluffy folds while the center stays moist; substantial egg comes first, then aroma. Preserved radish is restrained and does not overpower the egg, adding slight crunch as you chew. It transitions well between rich sauces, eaten alone or shared.

● Sauce-Tossed Green Crab with Rice Cakes

Green crab and rice cakes braise together, carrying crab roe and savor into the sauce. Rice cakes absorb crab aroma and special sweet bean sauce, with glossy coating outside and chew within. Sweet bean depth leads, then crab and rice aroma concentrate as you chew. Share hot; it shows Shanghai craft joining main ingredient and reduced sauce.

Uncle's saying: Dongpo pork fails if it collapses or remains underseasoned. Here the heat is precise; when the fat melts, the master's foundation is clear.
● Dongpo Pork

Dongpo pork braises in special sauce over low heat for at least half a day, gradually drawing color and aroma into tender meat. Fat melts with a light bite while lean meat stays moist; gentle sweetness, meat, and sauce are tightly linked. Its rich, soft character suits later in the meal, refreshed by omelet or the light wine aroma of drunken chicken.

● Shaoxing Drunken Chicken

Firm free-range chicken absorbs wine aroma without harshness. The skin is springy and the meat beneath retains bounce, giving each slice a double bite. Shaoxing fragrance rises gradually with chewing and layers over chicken savor. The cool appetizer also separates rich sauces so the next bite becomes clear again.

💡 Ordering Notes

Four or more order best: drunken chicken first, green-crab rice cakes and Dongpo pork as mains, then vegetables or soup. Confirm crab size, rooms, and parking by phone. Crucian carp has many fine bones, so eat slowly.

📌 Editor's Summary

Hongsu blends old Shanghai artisan persistence with the approachability of a neighborhood restaurant. Its traditional flavors bring nostalgia to elders and surprise to younger diners. Slow braises and hand-prepared craft dishes show grounded sincerity, with clear seasoning layers and the weight of inheritance in each bite. For genuine Jiangsu-Zhejiang craft or parents' remembered Shanghai food, this is a collectible, dependable Xindian choice.
