THE STORY

The story behind this place

From a rice warehouse to the dessert table

The old granary on 大同街 once stored and milled rice, linking it to the history of rice distribution from the Guandu Plain. Coffee and handmade-dessert brands moved in together as 拾米屋, giving the space a new purpose. Su Yi-fan also works with small farmers, bringing Taiwanese rice, cacao and seasonal fruit into desserts and continuing the site's relationship with food.

Lemon-Glazed Pound Cake

Yellow and green citrus bring sweet-tart flavor and freshness; icing adds a sweet crunch. Unsweetened yogurt beside the dense cake contributes tang and moisture.

Lemon Tart MetroBites visit photo

Lemon Tart

A thin shell holds yellow lemon filling, with clear citrus tartness rounded off by sweetness. Smooth filling contrasts with the dry, crisp pastry.

Warming softens the cake and brings out rich cocoa. Unsweetened yogurt lightens the heaviness, though accumulating sweetness can still feel cloying toward the end.

A TASTE OF TAIWAN

Taiwanese crops in desserts

拾米屋 brings Taiwanese rice, cacao and small-farm fruit into its desserts, considering each ingredient's season and condition before deciding what to make. Western cakes and chocolate gain a connection to the land; eating dessert here offers another way to encounter local agriculture.

✨ AI Visit Notes

This distinctive cafe on 大同街 in Beitou occupies a granary several decades old. Away from the bustle of the hot-spring area, it offers a high-ceilinged old building with a light industrial feel, surrounded by greenery. Prices sit toward the middle-to-high end for cafes, but house-roasted regional coffees and carefully handmade desserts have made it a favorite retreat before a Beitou soak or for quiet reflection on a weekend.

Interior and atmosphere:A high sheet-metal roof, concrete walls and greenery create a light industrial look. Daylight and shadows enter the old warehouse, giving it more breathing room than a typical small cafe. The air-conditioning can be cool, so a light jacket is practical. Weekday and holiday reservations and time limits have differed in the past; full houses on holidays bring a quicker pace. For groups of six or more, confirm a large table first instead of arriving and trying to rearrange the warehouse.
Location and dining tips:The address is 台北市北投區大同街153號一號倉庫. It is some distance from Beitou Market and the hot-spring area, so following navigation on foot is safest. Opening hours are relatively short and desserts depend on that day's display. Coffee-of-the-day refills, tea re-steeping, minimum orders, reservations and time limits may change; check the official website or social media before leaving.
● Lemon-Glazed Pound Cake

Yellow lemon brings ripe sweet-tart flavor, while green citrus adds freshness. Icing gives the dense pound cake sweetness and crunch. The unsweetened yogurt alongside is not just decoration: its tang reins in the icing and moistens every bite. This makes a good first afternoon dessert with coffee. If you are wary of sweetness, use more yogurt; don't complain the cake is dry while saving all the yogurt until the end.

● Coffee of the Day (Dine-In Only)

Coffee of the day is mild and approachable, without strong acidity or astringency, and finishes with a clean cocoa aroma. It suits anyone who doesn't want to study a whole lineup of single-origin regions. It cuts the sweetness of pound cake or brownies and offers a direct introduction to the house roasting style. A single weekday refill was offered in the past, but rules change. I suggest ordering coffee to drink it, not merely to calculate the average price of two cups.

● Lemon Tart

Lemon Tart holds bright yellow filling in a thin pastry shell, focusing on the balance of sweetness and acidity. Clear lemon tartness arrives first, then sweetness rounds it off without either side taking over. The base gives the smooth filling a dry pastry contrast. For a dessert with a direct, clearly defined flavor in this old warehouse, it feels livelier than rich chocolate.

● Matcha Chiffon Cake

Green matcha chiffon comes with sweetened red beans alongside. Start with the cake alone, then bring beans into the next bite. The chiffon carries the matcha theme; the beans add their own aroma and sweetness. Serving them side by side lets you adjust the intensity yourself rather than using the same ratio in every bite, moving between clear tea notes and gentle sweetness. For fans of Japanese tea desserts who like flexibility, this is a plate to explore slowly, component by component.

● Chocolate Brownie

Warming makes the originally dense Chocolate Brownie softer and smoother, concentrating its chocolate aroma and intensity. Small slices make it easy to taste in stages. Try it alone first for the full cocoa character, then with the unsweetened yogurt at the side: tang and dairy notes open up the heaviness. Alternating between the two preserves the brownie's depth without making every bite relentlessly sweet.

Uncle's words: The old granary's walls have the depth of time; the brownie has the depth of cocoa. Take your time looking and eating—don't swallow it all in one go.
💡 Ordering Notes

For a first visit, pair coffee of the day with Lemon-Glazed Pound Cake for a balanced sweet-tart combination. Chocolate Brownie is intense and good for sharing. Desserts change daily, so ask about the display before setting out if you have a particular one in mind.

  • Type:House-roasted coffee, handmade desserts and tea.
  • Highlights:A repurposed old Beitou granary, high-ceilinged historic space, light industrial style and daily desserts.

📌 Editor's Wrap-Up

拾米屋 (SheMe House) has carved out a place beyond Beitou Market and the hot-spring area through its distinctive converted-granary setting and solid handmade-dessert skills. The signature brownie can feel heavy and tiring to the palate as sweetness builds toward the end. Still, the pound cake's balance of salty and sweet, plus the generosity of a free weekday coffee-of-the-day refill, keep this atmospheric old-building cafe a dependable place for an unhurried break and quiet time before a hot-spring visit.
