“My灶, selected for the 2018 Taipei Michelin Bib Gourmand, is worth making time for if you appreciate the details in home-style Taiwanese cooking. The two sauces for the fruit chicken, the crisp bite of fly’s head, and the rich braised pork rice each have a clear personality, while the founders’ story of partnering over admiration for cooking adds warmth to the table.”

THE STORY

The story behind this place

A restaurant born from admiration for the cooking

Chang Cheng-hao, who worked in food processing, once ate at a small shop run by Kuo Mei-ying and was so impressed by her cooking that he invited her to open a restaurant together. That is how My灶 began. The story of a diner becoming a business partner adds an approachable warmth to the familiar Taiwanese dishes: a table of home-style food became a way to share good cooking.

Fruit Chicken

The chicken is tender with a crisp, springy bite rather than dry. The kumquat sauce adds bright sweet-tart flavor, while garlic soy sauce deepens the savoriness. Each sauce has its own character, giving this shareable chicken main more range.

Fly’s Head MetroBites visit photo

Fly’s Head

Garlic chives bring a clear aroma and crisp bite to this savory home-style stir-fry. It is especially good with rice, combining crunch and saltiness directly, and gives a shared Taiwanese meal another quick, vivid flavor.

Braised Pork Rice MetroBites visit photo

Braised Pork Rice

The braising sauce leans rich and fatty, coating the rice with deep savoriness and a pleasantly sticky texture, plus a faint caramel-like note. Fat and soy-based seasoning meld together for diners who enjoy robust Taiwanese braised pork rice, either on its own or as a final bowl after shared dishes.

✨ AI Visit Note

If you are looking for a Taiwanese restaurant near Songjiang Nanjing or a group-dining option in Taipei’s Zhongshan area, My灶 is a representative choice. Tucked into a lane off Songjiang Road, it is about 3 minutes on foot from Exit 2 of Songjiang Nanjing. The restaurant received Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition for multiple consecutive years and was also selected for 500 Dishes. The food is home-style Taiwanese, but the flavors are carefully handled and memorable—well suited to friends, family gatherings, or anyone wanting warmth and quality in the same meal.

Interior and dining atmosphere:My灶 has a reasonably spacious interior. Wood-paneled walls and dim warm lighting create a retro mood somewhere between an old house and a Japanese izakaya. Seating centers on round tables, with private rooms also available, making the setting relaxed and friendly for larger groups or meals with elders. A row of Michelin recommendation stickers covers the glass at the entrance; the sign is understated, but the restaurant is not difficult to identify once you approach.

Location and dining tips:My灶 is in a lane off Songjiang Road in Taipei’s Zhongshan area, about 3 minutes on foot from Exit 2 of Songjiang Nanjing. The name sounds close to the Taiwanese phrase “麥造,” giving it a friendly tone that suits a Taiwanese restaurant inviting guests to eat well before they leave. Fruit Chicken is a limited dish that must be reserved, so ask about it when making your booking if that is why you are coming.

● Fruit Chicken

Fruit Chicken makes an impression as soon as it arrives. The chicken is cleanly prepared, with a springy bite and clear tenderness rather than dryness. The real lift comes from the two dipping sauces: kumquat sauce adds a bright sweet-tart note, while garlic soy sauce brings deeper savory flavor and amplifies the chicken. The two sauces have distinct personalities, turning the dish into more than an extension of plain poached chicken and making it a strong main to share.

● Fly’s Head

Fly’s Head is a classic Taiwanese dish that begs for rice, built around the aroma and texture of garlic chives. Here it is crisp, fragrant, and well seasoned. It does not rely on elaborate presentation; it is the kind of home-style stir-fry that makes you want another bite of rice as soon as it lands on the table. The flavor is direct and lively, and it works naturally as a shared dish.

● Braised Pork Rice

The braised pork rice looks simple, but the details are handled well. The sauce is on the richer, fattier side, and once mixed into white rice it delivers full savoriness, the sticky mouthfeel associated with Taiwanese braised pork rice, and plenty of rendered aroma. There is also a slight caramel note, so it is not simply salty; the more it is mixed, the more fragrant and easy to eat it becomes. It works as a final bowl after a shared Taiwanese meal and shows the restaurant’s care with familiar food.

Uncle’s line: The hard part about Taiwanese food is not making it flashy. It is making something look home-style, then tasting it and realizing the cook has paid attention to every detail. That is the path My灶 takes.
