“Thick-cut beef tongue, tomahawk pork and Matsusaka pork line up crisp, springy and tender textures across the charcoal grill, while the salmon-cheese grilled rice ball changes the rhythm. WHY VISIT

Why add it to your itinerary?

01
Keep the charcoal aroma, take less smoke home

The Siyuan branch puts charcoal grilling and the equipment team’s smoke- and odor-reduction system into the same experience, and it was once selected as a green demonstration site. Beyond the meat, cleaner air and less lingering smell on clothes become differences you can actually feel.

02
Thick beef tongue and bone-in pork take turns on the grill

Beef tongue about half a centimeter thick stays springy, crisp and juicy even when fully cooked, while the tomahawk pork moves from tender meat to richer fat and chew near the bone. Order both to compare heat control and bite across thick cuts.

03
Reset the meat feast with a crisp grilled rice ball

Salmon and cheese are mixed into rice, brushed with sauce and grilled on every side for a thin crisp shell, then finished with seaweed. Crisp outside, soft and milky within, it works well for sharing between several rounds of meat.

04
High visibility built on more than 3,000 reviews

Google currently shows about 4.8 with 3,657 accumulated reviews, giving first-time visitors a straightforward reference for its popularity.

THE STORY

The story behind this place

From exhaust engineering to charcoal yakiniku

Mi Charcoal Yakiniku did not begin with a conventional restaurant group, but with Dagangxin, a team long involved in restaurant equipment and exhaust engineering. In 2016, the team opened the first Mi Charcoal Yakiniku in Huilong, bringing its familiar kitchen, air-conditioning and hood technology into its own dining brand.

From the beginning, the brand treated fresh, unmasked flavor and leaving with less smoke odor on clothing as core goals. The Xinzhuang Siyuan branch continues that equipment-driven approach and was selected as a green demonstration site in 2022, turning an invisible ventilation system into something diners can directly notice.

Started with its first Huilong shop in 2016 Created as an extension of a restaurant-equipment team The Siyuan branch was selected as a green demonstration site

Thick-Cut Beef Tongue MetroBites visit photo

Thick-Cut Beef Tongue

The beef tongue, about half a centimeter thick, should be cooked fully through. The outside turns springy and crisp while the center stays juicy. Try the first piece plain, then use pepper salt or scallion salt to bring out different layers.

Taiwan Tomahawk Pork Chop MetroBites visit photo

Taiwan Tomahawk Pork Chop

Two large long-bone pork chops are first browned whole, then the bone and meat are cut apart so the thick sections can get enough heat. The boneless meat stays tender and juicy, while the area near the bone brings extra fat aroma and chew.

Grilled Salmon & Cheese Rice Ball MetroBites visit photo

Grilled Salmon & Cheese Rice Ball

Salmon and cheese are worked into the rice, then all four sides are brushed with sauce and grilled into a thin, crisp, toasted shell while the inside stays fluffy and milky. It is well suited for sharing between rounds of meat.

METROBITES LOCAL TIP
Set doneness on thick cuts first, let the rice ball finish slowly

Start the tomahawk pork as a whole piece, browning both sides before cutting it open and giving the thick and bone-side sections extra heat. Beef tongue should be cooked fully through. Give every side of the rice ball enough time to take on sauce and color; it can roast slowly midway through the meat courses.

✨ AI Quick Visit Review

This à la carte yakiniku bistro on Siyuan Road in Xinzhuang sits not far from Xingfu (幸福站), with a bright yellow sign that stands out on the corner. Inside, black and gold mix with red for a low-key glamorous look. The ground floor has a large screen showing sports, while upstairs there are private rooms. The biggest bonus is that on weekdays, when staff are not busy, they can grill the meat for you so you do not have to juggle everything yourself. A pot of clam soup is served first, and you are unlikely to leave smelling strongly of smoke. Current weekday service begins in the evening, while weekends start from noon. Grill opening, staff-assisted cooking and menu availability still depend on the Siyuan branch’s arrangements that day, so checking first is the safest move before planning a serious meat session.

Uncle says: Having someone turn the meat for you is one of the pleasures of yakiniku. Otherwise, the moment I start chatting, the slices either become charcoal or dry firewood.
Shop setting and dining atmosphere:The Siyuan branch occupies two floors. The ground floor has tables for groups of four to eight, a counter and a large screen; upstairs are long tables, an activity area and partitionable private rooms, so families, sports watchers and larger gatherings are all covered. The exhaust system works well enough that you do not leave completely soaked in charcoal smell, and on weekdays staff will also help grill when staffing allows. Having someone turn the meat is genuinely relaxing, but keep half an eye on the grate while chatting: when the staff get busy, beef belly will not stop blackening just because your group is having a good time.
Location and dining notes:The address is 新北市新莊區思源路483號, phone 02 2992 7272, about an 8-minute walk from Xingfu (幸福站) on the Circular Line. Drivers can consider the underground parking at Touqian Junior High School. Recent information lists weekday hours as 16:30 to 23:00 and weekend hours as 12:00 to 23:00. Some older listings used 481號 for the street number, so navigation should follow the shop’s latest pin. Grill opening, staff-assisted cooking, minimum spend for private rooms, birthday promotions and last-order times may all change; ask about them together when booking.
● Taiwan Tomahawk Pork Chop

The two large bone-in pork chops are easy to recognize by their long bones. Start by placing both sides on the grate to brown, then use scissors to separate bone from meat so the charcoal can directly finish the thicker sections. The fully meaty parts are tender and juicy, while the areas close to the bone carry more marbling, concentrating meat aroma and fat as you chew. Grilling the chops whole before cutting also helps hold on to their juices.

● Thick-Cut Beef Tongue

The beef tongue is about half a centimeter thick, giving it a much more substantial bite than thin slices and requiring it to be cooked fully through. The outside is springy and crisp, while the inside still carries naturally sweet juices, so “thick-cut” does not mean simply hard and crunchy. Eat the first piece plain to get familiar with the tongue’s charcoal aroma and meaty sweetness, then try pepper salt or scallion to notice the shift toward savory seasoning and fresh pungency.

Uncle says: Good meat does not need marinating. Give it some heat over charcoal and a little salt—that is the greatest respect you can show it. Extra sauce is just acting.
● Local Matsusaka Pork

Slices of Matsusaka pork show fine marbling clearly. Grill them until the surface is lightly browned and crisp while the center remains smooth, tender and springy. The first impression is charcoal aroma, followed by crunch, bounce and fat that melts open, with a fresh sweetness that never feels heavy. Try it plain first, then add a small amount of scallion-salt sauce; savory seasoning and sweet scallion make the pork flavor stand out more clearly.

● Grilled Salmon & Cheese Rice Ball

The rice ball mixes salmon and golden cheese into the rice, brushes every side with sauce and grills it into a thin crisp shell, then finishes with fine strips of seaweed. The surface is toasted and savory, while the inside opens into fluffy, gently sweet grains layered with salmon savor and milky cheese aroma. The crisp-outside, soft-inside contrast is clear, and it is easy to share between meat courses.

💡 Ordering notes

Let staff help with the thick beef tongue and tomahawk pork first, then quickly grill beef belly yourself, saving the rice ball to share midway through. Weekday and weekend opening times differ; confirm staff-assisted grilling, birthday lobster offers, private-room minimum spend and the correct map pin when you make the reservation.

  • Location:新莊區思源路483號, about an 8-minute walk from Xingfu (幸福站).
  • Type:À la carte charcoal yakiniku, skewers, cooked dishes, and alcoholic drinks.
  • Highlights:Two-floor space, strong ventilation, and table-side grilling on weekdays when staffing permits.
  • Best for:Watching sports with friends, family gatherings, birthdays, and anyone who wants a relaxed yakiniku meal.

📌 Editor’s takeaway

Uncle sees Mi Charcoal Yakiniku Bistro as a solid place to gather with friends and eat meat generously. With quality unmarinated cuts, an excellent tomahawk pork chop and thoughtful table-side grilling, the meal ends up both filling and comfortable. It is not chasing an ultra-luxury, expensive fine-dining route, but if you want a yakiniku shop with good extraction where your clothes do not stink afterward—and where you can quietly drink, chat and watch a game—the everyday feel and service here still earn a pass.
